The Battle of Castobel
Battle Brother Malthon
“Never to much machine to hold a grudge” – Battle Brother Malthon
Even as a young child Malthon was curious about machinery and the machine god. And since he as a young man enlisted to fight the Xenos treath lost an eye, and got his first bionic eye, he has only found real salvation when he was tempering with machines serving the machine spirit.
It was a great day when Malthon was recruited by the Dark Angel chapter end recognized to undergo the Adeptus Mechanicus training, since it would get him even closer to greater machine spirits, and the forbidden lore of the Omnissiah.
“Yours is to heed the machine as others heed their kin. Tend to the war spirits all about, but do so in the knowledge that you do the Emperor’s duty. Without your ministrations, no bolt may be fired, and no enemy slain.”
–Extract from the Apocrypha of Eons, Verse III, Chapter CIV (fragment)
Upon the return to his beloved chapter, nothing was really the same, and his fellow brothers didn’t perceive him to be the same person as before the long training. It was no real surprise to Malthon, since he now was part machine and part man and from now on was striving to become more machine and less of the weak flesh that brought him in to this world… but for this he would need to get even closer to the machines spirits, and constantly learn more about the forbidden lore of the Adeptus Mechanicus cult.
While seen to my duties in my company, keeping and mending machine spirits in the smallest bolter to the biggest war machine, Malthon came upon a relic the company had been searching for. Little know fact was that a certain Space Wolf company was seeking the same relic, to claim for themselves. This was to be discovered on the surface of the planets Thulenar, where a good chance to pick up an old grudge resulted in a race for the same relic.
Accessing the vault just before the rival Space Wolfs catch up, we recover and secure the relic. This angers especially Space Wolf Lucien, which challenges me for the relic in a ritual duel fight.
“Recovering the relic for my chapter would be a great honor, but recovering it while claiming it right in front of at group of Space Wolfs would be an even greater honor… and this mere assult marine is only human, and not worthy of the Omnissiahs blessing.”
The melee duel for the relics begins, and the space wolf puts up quite a fight. But even though he is fast and is able to get some blow on me, he’s speed is no match for a grappling servo arm, and a few swift punches of my own. I claimed the relic for the Dark Angels, but gained a rival in Lucien and his fellow Space Wolfs.
Back in my chapter my deed had not gone unnoticed, and I have now been recruited to be a part of the Deathwatch. An even greater honor, where I can serve the Emperor and tend to the machine spirits of some of the greatest weaponry even know to mankind.
In my duty here I am still working on locating relics and machine spirits, which will aids the battle against the Xenos that infest the universe… and the quest for knowledge and tools never ends…
